CRDAMC Nurse helps save 84-year-old fellow traveler’s life

For her heroics while on vacation, Cene Cleaton, staff nurse, inpatient behavioral health, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, received a commander’s coin from Col. Daniel Moore, commander, April 27. While on a cruise stopover in Mexico earlier this year, Cleaton helped administered lifesaving CPR to 84-year-old Frank McAndrew. McAndrew suffered a cardiac arrest and as a result of her, and fellow travelers, Debra Davis and Garrett Brunson’s first actions, he survived.

Leadership Killeen experiences CRDAMC’s support to the community

Emerging leaders with the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce visited the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center to learn about hospital operations and how it serves the surrounding Central Texas community April 19. The Leadership Killeen group also toured the hospital inpatient and emergency departments to receive an overview of services, capabilities and readiness support to Fort Hood and the surrounding community.

Fort Hood ACS and SRU hosts the Federal Internships and Employment Fair

The Fort Hood Army Community Service and Soldier Recovery Unit partnered with Department of Defense and state organizations for the Federal Internships and Employment Fair at the Soldier Family Assistance Center April 11. Although the event is designed for SRU Soldiers as part of the Army Recovery Care Program, the Operation Warfighter and Education & Employment Initiative programs, coordinators opened it up to all Fort Hood Soldiers separating from the military and encouraged their attendance to increase awareness of possible opportunities with the more than 30 agencies that participated.

CRDAMC hosts Centering Pregnancy after three-year hiatus

Fourteen expectant mothers joined Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Women’s Health Center staff for the first Centering Pregnancy session since 2020 at the hospital March 22. Designed by the Centering Healthcare Institute, a non-profit organization that provides more effective prenatal care training to hospitals such as CRDAMC, Centering Pregnancy is group prenatal care bringing women out of examination rooms and into a more comfortable group setting.

CRDAMC brings back its Baby Expo

The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center hospital staff was excited to invite the community back to its eighth annual Baby Expo at the main hospital March 11. The expo was the first since 2019 due to COVID-19 and is designed to provide health education and promotion of various perinatal topics for new and expectant parents, beneficiaries who are pregnant, post-partum or who have delivered within the past year.

CRDAMC best leaders move on to MRC, W Best Squad Competition

In a test of physical and mental endurance, 18 medical leaders from the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center demonstrated their Soldier skills during the 2023 Best Leaders Competition, Feb. 17. The winners of this competition: Capt. Michael Stangroom, physical therapist; Staff Sgt. Phillip Hubbard, radiologist specialist; and Spc. Caitlyn Rishell, nutrition specialist, will now move on to represent CRDAMC at the Medical Readiness Command, West Best Medic Squad Competition later this year.
