What is the difference between a refill and a renewal?
If your provider authorizes refills on your prescription, you are able to fill your prescription and refill it up to the authorized number of times. However, depending on the type of medication, your prescription will expire within one year or less, including any unused refills. When your prescription expires or you run out of refills, your provider must order a new prescription to continue your medication. This is called a renewal.
What if CRDAMC doesn't carry my medication?
When a medication is prescribed to you that we do not carry, it is called a non-formulary drug. Non-formulary drug requests follow a unique process:
- Many non-formulary drugs have extra paperwork the doctor needs to complete before Pharmacy can fill the prescription. Fort Cavazos doctors will usually submit a special electronic prescription that includes all the required paperwork.
- Prescriptions from off-post doctors will only be honored if you were referred to that doctor by a Fort Cavazos provider. If additional paperwork is needed, the doctor should give it to you along with the paper prescription.
- The order is thoroughly reviewed, which may take up to 5 days from the time Pharmacy receives all the paperwork. You will be notified if the request is approved or denied.
- If approved, you will be given the information you need to get your prescription and order refills or renewals, if applicable.
How do I fill an electronic prescription sent from my off-post provider?
- Patients must contact the pharmacy directly either in person, by phone, or utilize the Q-Anywhere prescription activation service to begin the filling process of a NEW electronic prescription.
- Patients can call the CRDAMC Pharmacy Call Center at 254-288-8800 or text message the phrase “Get In Line” to our Q-Anywhere service at 855-812-6030 and follow the prompts for their electronic prescriptions to be activated and filled.
How can I pick up my spouse, family member, or when acting as a care giver, the beneficiary’s prescription?
To ensure patient privacy, in accordance with HIPAA, the patient’s military ID card or facsimile (photocopy, digital picture, or electronic image of front and back) should be presented at the pharmacy to pick up all new prescriptions and refills. In the event that a military ID card is
NOT available, a valid unexpired official picture ID (State Driver’s License/ID Card, Staff CAC, or Passport) can be used for identity and must verify two patient identifiers. The parent or guardian’s ID card may be used to claim all prescriptions for children less than
17 years of age and must verify two patient identifiers. Anyone 18 years of age and older should present their military ID card or approved picture ID as above. Patients may authorize adult third-parties to pick up their prescriptions as an individual acting as the patient’s representative.
