CRDAMC pharmacy team safely working towards better wait times

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – A look behind the scenes of the pharmacy windows at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center pharmacy will show personnel continue to endure many changes while working hard to be safe when providing prescription services to beneficiaries. In recent months several challenges arose that would have overwhelmed most teams, such as, the cyber-attack, the prescription verification system installation, in March 2022 the addition of a completely new system called Military Health System, GENESIS, that replaced older systems. GENESIS connected other military pharmacies plus a secure patient portal that allows beneficiaries access to their MHS health records and to virtually interact with military health care teams.

Darnall invites the community to bring awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Prevention Month

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center began Sexual Assault Awareness Prevention Month with it’s “Do Your Part” blood drive, one of a few planned events that will allow the community to help bring awareness to preventing sexual assaults and harassment. “This year’s theme is Change Through Unity: Empower. Protect. Prevent.” Following the initial observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, advocates of sexual assault survivors sought to create a similar awareness event more specific to sexual violence. What started out as an awareness week in April, grew into a month-long consciousness-raising event.

Keeping your eyes healthy and protecting them during the Solar Eclipse

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center optometry experts urge Fort Cavazos beneficiaries to protect their eyes from injury during the upcoming Solar Eclipse. Safety for your eyes is the number one priority when viewing a total solar eclipse and most know not to view the eclipse without specialized glasses. However, some are unaware of some details when it comes to viewing eclipses, e.g., you should not use eclipse glasses or handheld viewers with cameras, binoculars, or telescopes. Those require different types of solar filters.

CRDAMC Employee receives DHA Positive Spirit Award

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Lt. Gen. Telita Crosland, director, Defense Health Agency and Chief Master Sgt. Tanya Johnson, senior enlisted leader, DHA, presented Mitzi Rogers, quality assurance assistant, patient experience division, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, with the DHA Positive Spirit Award in a virtual DHA Employee Recognition Ceremony 11 March. The Positive Spirit Award recognizes employees who improved morale and increased productivity through a positive attitude, embodied a team player mentality, and/or volunteered to assist in work efforts outside of their own.

Fort Cavazos Intrepid Spirit Center host its annual open house in honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Fort Cavazos Intrepid Spirit Center held its 8th Annual Open House for post and surrounding community leaders, beneficiaries, and current and prior patients 22 March. The ISC has helped many Service Members with treatment of long term affects from brain injuries and see improvements with many patients.

Service Members form special bonds while healing at the Fort Cavazos Intrepid Spirit Center

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Fort Cavazos Intrepid Spirit Center’s six-week Intensive Outpatient Program combines art, music, and group sessions that are all designed to help Service Members heal from events that may have caused brain injuries, long term affects from them and traumatic experiences throughout their Army careers. The program includes stress management, PTSD, sleep, physical, mindfulness, art, music, and cognitive rehabilitation therapies.

CRDAMC announces its 2024 Best Leader Competition winners

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Capt. Megan Hower, registered dietician, Staff Sgt. Eugene Mclaurin, licensed vocational nurse, and Spc. Emily Pacheco, behavioral health specialist, are the winners of the 2024 Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Best Leader Competition 1 March. They will move on to compete at the Medical Readiness Command, West Best Leader Competition in May.

CRDAMC welcomes its Leap Year Baby

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center welcomed its first baby of the Leap Year Feb. 29. Sgt. Alejandro Sierra, cavalry scout, 3rd Cav. Regt., and his wife Chelsea welcomed baby Nash Alexander at 9:02 a.m., weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 20.5 inches.

CRDAMC Veteran still serving after 35 years

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas - Charles Henderson, medical evaluation board officer, CRDAMC, and retired Sgt. 1st Class, was awarded a certificate for 35 years of government service in a ceremony at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center 1 Feb. Henderson retired from the Army after serving 22 years of service as a track vehicle mechanic, worked as a security specialist for the hospital for one year, and has served as a medical evaluations board officer for the past 15 years.

Coast Guardsmen cruise to physician assistant duties after IPAP graduation

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The first ever Coast Guardsmen graduated from the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Interservice Physician Assistant Program in a ceremony at the hospital 1 Feb. IPAP is the largest PA program in the world and ranks amongst the top 15 programs in the nation. It was first established in 1996 when the Army, Navy, and Air Force combined their various PA programs to form IPAP. Today, all branches, including Coast Guard, can apply for this intense 28-month program exclusive to military personnel.
