Medication Policies and Disposal

The CRDAMC Pharmacy follows the TRICARE Uniform Formulary. This list determines which medications are available at military pharmacies, through home delivery, and at retail pharmacies.

  • Formulary medications are available at no cost from CRDAMC pharmacies.
  • Non-formulary medications may require prior authorization and could have a copay.
  • Brand-name vs. generic: Generic medications are dispensed when available unless your provider specifies otherwise.

Tip: For the most up-to-date formulary information, visit the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool.

Non-Formulary or Special-Order Medications

Some medications may not be routinely stocked.
In these cases:

  • Your provider may need to submit a medical necessity form.
  • If approved, the medication will be ordered and may take extra time to arrive.
  • In rare cases, the prescription may need to be filled at a retail pharmacy or through TRICARE Home Delivery.

Self-Care Program

The CRDAMC Pharmacy offers over-the-counter (OTC) medications at no cost through the Self-Care Program.

  •  Available to TRICARE beneficiaries ages 2 and older.
  • Common items include pain relievers, allergy medications, cough and cold products, and digestive aids.
  • Ask a pharmacist about eligibility and available products.

Traveling With Medications

If you plan to travel:

  • Carry medications in original containers with the prescription label.
  • Bring a copy of your prescription or your most recent refill slip.
  • Check airline or international regulations before traveling overseas.
  • If you need an early refill for extended travel, request it through the Pharmacy Call Center.

Medication Disposal

Safe disposal protects you and the community. CRDAMC offers convenient options:

  • Blue MedSafe Disposal Bins
    • Located at the Main Pharmacy and Clear Creek PX Pharmacy.
    • Accept most unused or expired medications.
    • Not accepted: needles, sharps, or pressurized canisters (such as inhalers).
  • At-home disposal
    • Mix pills with coffee grounds or cat litter.
    • Place them in a sealed bag before throwing them away.
    • Scratch out personal information on prescription labels.

TRICARE Pharmacy Options

In addition to CRDAMC pharmacies, you have other ways to get prescriptions filled:

  • TRICARE Home Delivery
    • Convenient for maintenance medications.
    • Up to a 90-day supply mailed to your home.
    • Copays may apply.
  • Retail Network Pharmacies
    • Available nationwide for short-term prescriptions.
    • Copays vary based on medication type and supply.
Tip: Use military pharmacies whenever possible for the lowest cost.

Helpful Reminders

  • Always carry your military ID card when using pharmacy services.
