CRDAMC, STRONG STAR Consortium lead the fight against combat-related PTSD

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – For Soldiers suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and the STRONG STAR program provides access to the latest, most innovative care available for the treatment of this common warfighting mental health condition. Headquartered at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, STRONG STAR operates one of its largest clinical research hubs at Fort Cavazos, in close partnership with CRDAMC. Through collaborations with more than 150 investigators across over 50 academic, military, and VA institutions nationwide, the consortium's mission is clear: to develop and deliver evidence-based strategies that improve the psychological health of service members and veterans—helping them remain mission-ready and resilient in the face of adversity.

Fort Cavazos and CRDAMC Army Public Health urges vaccination for measles

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Fort Cavazos families should be fully vaccinated to protect themselves and our community against this highly contagious virus, following the report of a confirmed case of measles in Bell County, June 3, 2025, according to the Army Public Health Nursing team at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Since January, the Texas Department of State and Health Services has reported 744 measles cases in the Central and South-Central region of Texas, including 96 hospitalizations. The Centers for Disease and Control has reported over 1000 cases since 10 June in many other states https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news-alerts/measles-outbreak-2025.

CRDAMC hosts Mental Health Fair to help military families face unique challenges, stressors

FORT CAVAZSO, TEXAS –The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Behavioral Health department hosted its annual Mental Health Month Information Fair on May 2 to help military families understand the resources available to them. Over 20 Fort Cavazos and surrounding community organizations, including Veterans Affairs, Military One Source, CRDAMC Behavioral Health, Suicide Prevention, the New Parent Support Program, and the Exceptional Family Member Program, just to name a few, provided information about the mental health services their organizations provide.

CRDAMC earns ‘A’ Spring Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

FORT CAVAZOS, TEXAS - The Carl R Darnall Army Medical Center earned its third consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national organization, focused on health care quality, May 1. The new grade for spring 2025 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Central Texas partners for community healthcare

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Members of Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce visited the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center for a Healthcare Day tour 16 April to learn how community relationships contribute to the health and readiness of our warfighters. The Leadership Killeen Program provides participants with training and opportunities to learn about the integrated relationships that exist between healthcare services on Fort Cavazos and the local healthcare community.

III Armored Corps commander visits Fort Cavazos SRU

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas –The III Armor Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. Kevin Admiral visited Fort Cavazos and the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Soldier Recovery Unit March 21. Accompanied by III Armor Corps Command Sgt. Maj. John McDwyer, Admiral toured the organization’s Adaptive Reconditioning Program, received briefings from staff, and visited with cadre and civilian personnel who contribute to the SRU's success. He also presented coins and medals in recognition of their dedication and hard work.

CRDAMC welcomes new senior enlisted advisor

The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. James Brown during an Assumption of Responsibility ceremony held March 20 in the hospital atrium. Brown previously served as the Garrison Command Sergeant Major at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.

Act Now, TRICARE Online Patient Portal to Be Decommissioned April 1

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Department of Defense has fully transitioned to MHS GENESIS, the new electronic health record system, along with its MHS GENESIS Patient Portal MHS GENESIS Patient Portal. As a result, the TRICARE Online (TOL) Patient Portal will be decommissioned on April 1. To keep a complete personal record of your medical history, you must log in to the TOL Patient Portal and download your records before April 1.
