FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center welcomes, Chance Lee Davis, the first baby of the new year.
Baby Chance arrived at 12:30 a.m. and weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and 19 inches.
Proud parents and veterans Douglas IV and Alexa Davis are most looking forward to companionship as a family and seeing Chance, and sister Emery almost two, grow up together and form the brother and sister bond.
Their hopes are for the children to take their own path and learn to be strong and independent from them.
“We want them to learn those traits as well as self-worth, stability, and independence from us,” said Douglas.
“I want them to be whoever their heart desires and not let the world tell them who they can be or what they should [aspire to] be,” said Alexa. “I want my daughter to know that she does not have to be a stay home mom. She can do things guys do, and he [Change] can be a nurse. He doesn’t have to be in the military or that construction worker, because today everyone thinks that’s how it has to be.”
With that mindset the couple named Chance after both their mothers.“We feel like it’s a strength thing,” added Alexa.
He has Douglas’ mothers first name Chancie, spelled Chance, and Alexa’s mothers middle name Lee.
Alexa’s mother and grandmother, Diane and Cindy, live locally in Temple and got to see Chance New Year’s Day, and Douglas’ parents, Douglas III and Chancie, will arrive later this week.
The two met and got married while serving in the Army.
Alexa, a native of West Palm Beach, Fla., was a sergeant and culinary specialist, and Douglas, a native of Gainesville, Va., was a specialist and infantryman.
Douglas now works as a public safety officer and is looking forward to going to the police academy to become an officer later this year.
Alexa is an administrative clerk for a local medical company and is perusing becoming a radiology tech and working in the medical field — “which I love,” she added.
