CRDAMC offers holiday safety fair, receives a visit from Shoemaker High School “Wolfpack” choir

By Rodney Jackson, CRDAMC Public Affairs

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas – The Killeen Shoemaker High School choir graced the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with beautiful holiday songs, and the hospital’s holiday fair brought resources and information to help staff and beneficiaries coop with the stress that the season brings Dec. 8.
“We are trying to address those behaves that spike due to stressors during the holiday season,” said Lisa Lerma, sexual assault and response coordinator, CRDAMC.
CRDAMC staff and Fort Cavazos organizations provided information on new parenting, military peer network, army substance abuse, sexual assault and prevention, family advocacy, winter safety, food safety and behavior health.
Col. Garrick Cramer, commander, CRDAMC, thanked the students and staff for their visit and gave them a token of appreciate certificate from the hospital.
“I think its important that we perform for the community and it’s our way of giving back, especially at Shoemaker, because a lot of our students parents are station here on Fort Cavazos,” said Jeb Harris, head choir director, Shoemaker High School, Killeen.
It’s important that students realize that their gifts they’ve been endowed with to sing and to perform should be used for the community, and I think it’s really important to teach them that, he added.
It just shows them a lot about civil service and things they need to know as they mature and are growing up, he added.
Harris invites the community out to Shoemaker’s holiday concert Dec. 14., at 6:30 p.m. at the high school auditorium.
