CRDAMC to Go-Live with MHS Genesis in March

By Rodney Jackson

FORT HOOD, Texas – Another day closer to Go-Live date for the new electronic health record for the Military Health System, dubbed GENESIS, and the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center is scheduled to make the transition 19 March.
The new health record will deliver data to healthcare teams wherever patients receive treatment-whether it’s at a medical facility within the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs or the U.S. Coast Guard.
As a clinical workflow analyst at CRDAMC helping staff members with their processes or requests for changes needed to help them in their daily jobs, April Arrington, heard many requests over the years from hospital staff members for a system that would combine multiple systems into one.
“GENESIS is putting every system together, and staff members will not have to switch between multiple programs, which will make it easy for hospital staff to serve our beneficiaries better,” said Arrington.
Staff members have trained at CRDAMC over the past year and around the clock in day shift and night shift sessions on individual functions within their departments, while still performing their normal duties.
The CRDAMC team encourages all beneficiaries to act now to help make the transition a smoother process.
The new system will integrate into one electronic health record system that will follow the service member from basic training to retirement and into the Veteran Affairs system. The record will travel to the next duty station electronically. The same electronic health record for all services and at all bases and shared with some select civilian providers. The patient portal will replace TRICARE Online after the records transfer using the same Department of Defense Self-Service Logon, or the same credentials used in the past. The Portal will provide 24/7 secure access to personal health information, to include lab results, prescription refills, secure messages with care teams, and more. Beneficiaries are encouraged to register for access to the new Patient Portal if they have not used DS Logon previously. Visit https://patientportal.mhsgenesis.health.mil.
